Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal

(Registered Charity no. 229539)

Each year the Lord Mayor of Liverpool raises money to be distributed to local charities or charities with a Liverpool connection.

The city of Liverpool’s Lord Mayor for 2008 / 2009 Councillor Steve Rotheram, set out with a target to more than double any previous Lord Mayors Appeal total achieved during his time in office.

The targets were set at £208,000 representing the Culture year of 2008, so far to date (November 2008) Cllr Rotheram has achieved well beyond his aim and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal total stands at around £750,000. The Lord Mayor’s term of office ends at the end of May 2009 by which time we are hoping to have achieved over £1 million pounds for the charities involved.

Craig along with pop icon Gerry Marsden, football legend Kenny Dalgliesh and comedian and radio presenter Sean Styles have all been personally chosen by the Lord Mayor Councillor Steve Rotheram as Appeal Ambassadors for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal which in 2008/ 2009 supports; Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, Marina Dalgliesh Appeal, Liverpool Heart & Chest’s Hospital, Merseybeat Appeal and Liverpool & South Sefton branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The panel of Ambassadors have been actively involved in fundraising events and activities throughout 2008/2009 including many events coinciding with Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.

Liverpool’s superlambananas have been a highlight of the cities year as European Capital of Culture 2008. In September 2008 they were auctioned on behalf of the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

At the event Craig purchased ‘Homer’ the builder themed Superlambanana with a toolbelt, high visibility vest, safety helmet, safety goggles and rigger boots.

Speaking to press at the time following his £12,000 purchase Craig said "My heart was set on the Homer because it represents the building industry, so it was right down my street."The event was the most successful Lord Mayor’s ever event to date in the UK raised a staggering £550,000 for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal. It is also suspected to be the most successful fundraising evening event of any Lord Mayor worldwide and will hopefully gain a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

If you would like to enquire about Homer to use for your company to exhibit on your premises, or at key regeneration, construction and educational events for construction apprentices email info@craigphillips.co.uk. If your suggestion can assist the Lord Mayor’s Appeal via a donation we would appreciate this.

Councillor Rotheram even joined Craig on set on ITV1’s 60 Minute Makeover at a location in Liverpool were the Lord Mayor assisted Craig in designing and creating the artwork on a mini Superlambanana.
