The Number 1 Project
At the beginning of 2008, as part of Liverpool´s European Capital of Culture celebrations, Craig appeared on stage in the opening week at Liverpool´s spectacular new £160 million pound arena as part of The Number 1 project.
The concert was the largest music based charity event the city of Liverpool has ever seen, celebrating its 56 number one hit singles, more than any other city in the world. 30 different Merseyside bands and acts performed, some being the original Number 1 performers like Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Farm, The Searchers, The Scaffold, Sonia and Atomic Kitten. A selection of Liverpool Number 1´s were also covered by famous local bands and artistes including The Merseybeats, China Crisis, The Christians, Ray Quinn and Eton Road.
Craig performed alongside beautiful Hollyoak´s actresses (Zoe Lister, Loui Batley, Helen Noble and Sarah Jayne Dunn) in front of 10,600 people in a rendition of Liverpool´s first Number 1 record ´How Much Is That Doggy In The Window´ originally a hit in 1952 for Lita Roza. Craig and the girls felt honoured and privileged to be asked to take part in the fundraising event organised by Chas Cole for CMP Entertainments and Atomic Kitten manager Martin O´Shea for Integral.
At the finale of the show Craig was honoured to join the legendary Gerry Marsden and all of the evenings star performers on stage for Gerry´s outstanding performance of ´You´ll Never Walk Alone´
All proceeds from the project will be distributed among 6 Merseyside charities Craig supports; The Liverpool Echo Sunrise Fund, The Marina Dalgliesh Appeal, Alder Hey IMAGINE Appeal, Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool, Radio City's Give A Child A Chance and Radio Merseyside´s Charitable Trust.
